Gilly had a GREAT Christmas. Last year she didn't seem to know that anything special was going on. This year she figured out that those boxes wrapped in colorful paper had fun stuff inside, and the best part was that she could rip up the paper without mom or dad telling her "no." She got lots of gifts, and especially loves her new dolls, and her baby carriage from Grammy Kathy. Now she loads up her carriage with dolls and drags them around the apartment, saying "baby! baby!" She also got a very nice Gilly-size hardwood table that Pops made for her, so she has a place to sit and color.
Here she is with her carriage (and a pair of Lyn's underwear that she is wearing as a scarf):
reading a book at her new table:
"Pops, are there any more presents in here?"

Mount Lafayette
Two of my labmates (Brenda and Sarah) and I decided to skip work yesterday and hike Mount Lafayette. It was a beautiful sunny day and not too cold . . . at least until we hit the summit (it was a little windy up there). We ran into two other parties on the mountain, so it was nice and quiet.
This is a view is towards the south (southwest?) from the Old Bridle Path somewhere on the "agonies" (I think . . . my sense of direction is infamous)
Here are the three of us not far from where the previous picture was taken. The summit is behind us (above us, out of view). We ran into my former family practicioner (from back when I was a wee one) on the trail and he snapped this picture for us. Small world!

Hockey
We took Gilly to see her first hockey game tonight. Two of my friends from Dartmouth are on a local team, Brenda (the goalie, a postdoc in our lab), and my classmate Anik. Gilly was mesmerized by the players skating up and down the ice . . . I think we may have a future sport for her :-) She had fun right up until our team scored the winning goal. When everybody screamed, she started to cry (she recovered quickly).
