Government Mind Control
If you use an aluminum foil hat to thwart government mind-control, you may need to seek a better alternative. MIT researchers have found that aluminum foil hats may in fact give the government greater control over your brain. (click)
This is further evidence that "wicked smaht" people can have a great sense of humor ;)

The Numbers
The wee one had her checkup today. Here are the stats:
10lb 4oz, 22 inches long, and 1 big melon-sized head. Bonus: 3 vaccine shots = 1 verrrry upset Gilly.

Sorry!
Sorry for the lack of updates. We've had some technical problems and I've been busy . . . ok I'm just a slacker ;)
Although we didn't make it out for Halloween, Gilly's gramma sent her a peapod costume. She's a little too small for it, but we still think she looked adorable.
Here are a couple of random Gilly pictures from the last week.

The elusive smile
Gilly has started smiling lately (honest), but capturing her smile in a picture has been as difficult as snapping a picture of Sasquatch. We finally got a smile here, well almost. You'll just have to trust us, it's a smile ;)

We can't believe it, but Gilly is already one month old. Pictures of her first month are posted here (click). Thank you to JB and CH for additional photos from Gilly's first week.

LOOK OUT!!!
If you see this face, you better hope Gilly is wearing a diaper. She's a loaded weapon.
After the inevitable aftermath of "the pootie face," Gilly needs a nap. It's hard work being a baby.

"He went back to work?!?!"
Yup, back to work. Pictures won't be posted as frequently as during the first two weeks, but I'll try to get some up every couple of days.

Answer: Lost socks, loose change, lint, Gilly
Question: What are things you may find in the laundry?
I hope she didn't shrink.

Late
Well, it looks like our little baby is enjoying her climate-controlled environment and is in no rush to leave. We had our first post-due date checkup yesterday; mom and baby are super healthy and doing very well. There was another ultrasound, and this time we got 3D pictures! We also got to see LIVE 3D images of our little girl (definitely a girl) gnawing on her fist/fingers. Too cute :)

wild youth
"Callers complaining about loud music coming from a buggy led deputies to charge a 19-year-old Amish man . . ."
I wonder if he was blaring Snoop Dogg.

Still here . . .
Been a little busy lately. I'm wrapping up my last research rotation in the Cole lab, and studying for my final exam next week. I also have a new home away from home for the next four (or five?) years. Starting June 13th, I'll be doing my thesis research in the Brinckerhoff lab. The details still need to be sorted out, but my research will revolve around a group of enzymes and their role/regulation in arthritis.
Lynnie and baby are doing well. All three of us went to see Revenge of the Sith last weekend. Baby really appreciated the thunderous sounds coming from the speakers in the theater. According to Lyn, she kicked throughout the entire move :)

Krebs Cycle Song
Our class has a big ugly exam coming up on Monday. It looks like some of us (myself included) are getting a little punchy from all the studying. One of my classmates just sent out a link to a song about the Krebs cycle, one of the major topics on the exam. I was nearly in tears from laughing. Maybe I should get some sleep :)
[Just in case you're wondering, the Krebs cycle is a component of cellular metabolism and is how we get most of our energy from food. If you're REALLY interested, there's some more info here: click.]

Ants
We have ants. Many, many ants. They're just the little brown "sugar ants" (not nearly as big as Them!) and until recently they were merely an annoyance. Yesterday, they crossed the line. One of them decided to attempt swimming in my water glass . . . it failed. Unfortunately I didn't notice the ant until after I chugged most of the glass of water. I hope he was swimming alone, because I only found one ant in the glass.

and so it begins . . .
I've heard parents joke/lament about the irony of accumulating such a large quantity of "stuff" for such tiny babies. Our baby girl isn't even here yet, and already she has her own room, dresser, rack of clothes and various assorted soft, fuzzy toys (not including Cannon).

Fun with beard trimming
I decided the recent warm weather warranted removal of the beard . . . but not without a little creative trimming first.
Lyn seemed to like this one:
Put me on a Harley and I'd almost look tough. Not quite though.
And yes, I shaved the rest of it off :)
